A Decade in the Making
A lifelong passion for design, paired with a deep fascination for the heritage of Wales, led our founder, Geoff Brown, on a decade-long journey. His mission was singular: to ethically build a reserve of incredibly rare Welsh gold, large enough to launch a brand that truly honoured the metal’s prestige.
As a former gallery owner, Geoff recognised a void at the highest tier of the jewellery market. He saw an opportunity to create something that didn't yet exist - pieces defined by uncompromising purity and transparency.
The Promise of 100% Welsh Gold
Authenticity Without Compromise
Aur Cymru Limited was born from a commitment to produce jewellery made of 100% Welsh gold. This stands in marked contrast to industry standards, where the actual Welsh gold content can often remain opaque. When you choose an Aur Cymru (Welsh Gold) piece, you are choosing the unadulterated essence of Wales.
The Welsh Maiden Trademark
In recognition of our standing and integrity, the British Government’s Intellectual Property Office has granted Aur Cymru Limited the exclusive use of the Welsh Maiden trademark. Historically recognised as the ultimate indicator of authentic Welsh gold, this mark was originally held by the operators of the Gwynfynydd gold mine. It is our seal of provenance and your guarantee of rarity. You can read more on this, and our Triquetra hallmark for 20% Welsh gold, on our Guide to Hallmarks page.
Founded on Ethical Principles
Sustainable Sourcing
Our gold is panned by hand in the Snowdonia region of North Wales. By avoiding machinery, excavation, and chemicals, we protect the beautiful Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) where our gold is found. We also maintain a rare reserve of historic stock from the original Gwynfynydd mine.
Responsible Artistry
Ethical integrity extends to every facet of our work:
- Gemstones: Every stone is ethically mined, cut, and sourced in accordance with strict international accreditation. Read more on our Gemstones page.
- Blended Commissions: Where a bespoke design requires a gold blend, we use only Fairmined gold, ensuring that every gram of metal supports responsible mining communities.
A Foundation of Excellence
These founding principles - exceptional design, meticulous craftsmanship, and the finest Welsh gold - form the bedrock of our reputation. We continue to flourish by staying true to the land that provides our inspiration and the rare materials that define our work.
When one decides to buy a small piece of Welsh history it is for a reason. My reason was that after 30 years of marriage I wanted my Wife to put a wedding band on my hand for the first time. Of Welsh ancestry it could only ever be made of true Welsh Gold. I wanted the gold in my band to be sourced by hand the old fashioned way and crafted by Master Craftsmen and Women in traditional ways. However, other people will have their own reasons and that is why buying Welsh Gold is so special. What I can categorically confirm from my own experience of buying from Welsh Gold is that you will be treated as a client with the care and consideration that is as rare these days as the precious metal itself.MARK
I’m so pleased by the whole process from start to finish.
